Nganampa Health Council is an Aboriginal owned and controlled health organisation operating on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in the far north-western region of South Australia. The APY Lands cover roughly 103,000 square km, with a population of approx. 3,000 Anangu people. The region is freehold land controlled by the Anangu people. 

Across this area, Nganampa Health Council operates seven clinics, an aged care facility and assorted health-related programs including aged care, sexual health, environmental health, dental, women's health, men's health, children's health and mental health.

Nganampa Health Council is widely recognised as being an exemplary Aboriginal health service in the country. Their successes include significantly reducing the rates of sexually transmitted infections, increasing birth weights through their antenatal program, consistently keeping childhood immunisation rates at 100% and providing high quality residential and respite aged care at their Tjilpiku Pampaku Ngura aged care facility.

Your New Career

Nganampa Health Council (NHC), now has a fantastic opportunity for a Maintenance & Procurement Manager to join their team on a full-time basis. For candidates who already have accommodation on the APY Lands, this position would ideally be based in Umuwa. However, if you do not have access to accommodation on the APY Lands then the position could be based in Alice Springs and would involve regular travel to the APY region.

In this role, you will provide expert advice and guidance regarding all maintenance work required to support the efficient operation and continuity of Nganampa Health Council services. You will manage maintenance services for existing NHC assets, ensuring all asset maintenance issues are investigated and followed up and work is completed to a high standard and in a timely manner.

Working under the direction of the Health Services Manager your responsibilities will include:

  • Prioritising the maintenance needs of all buildings, plant and equipment that are based on the APY Lands, and the NHC office in Alice Springs;
  • Managing NHC’s maintenance program and supervising contractors and service providers undertaking work at the direction of NHC;
  • Developing and implementing approved preventive and predictive maintenance plans and programs to ensure the continuity of NHC’s clinical service provision; and
  • Monitoring and reporting against annual maintenance budget.

Please note: If based in Alice Springs, the position will require regular travel and work on the APY Lands.

Nganampa Health Council is seeking an adaptable and flexible individual who can display the initiative, discretion and cultural sensitivity needed to support and drive the organisation's objectives and values. The ability to communicate and participate effectively within a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary team will be required, as will a demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety, quality assurance, continuous improvement and environmental management principles.

You will have demonstrated experience in maintenance management, including the application of computer-based maintenance management systems. Any knowledge of project management, contract and purchasing strategies to ensure the timely delivery of quality products and services for ongoing clinical operations, will be highly regarded.

Candidates should also be comfortable working under Aboriginal management and control. If you're open to change, accepting of Aboriginal people, comfortable living in a remote environment and are willing to learn the ways of the people, you'll be well suited to this position.

Please note: This position requires regular and extensive travel alone across the APY Lands and the successful candidate will need to be comfortable with this. In addition, the communities within the APY Lands are alcohol and drug managed. No alcohol or illegal substances are permitted within the region.

If successful you must be willing to comply with NHC’s immunisation requirements and undergo a Police Check and a Working With Children Check. A manual driver's licence is essential and it would be advantageous to have experience with 4WD vehicles, although a 2-day 4WD training course is provided in your orientation week.
